If you want to get into blogging, WordPress is definitely the platform to use. The ease and speed of installation coupled with the flexibility of being a blogging platform or a content management system, makes WordPress the instant choice. After all, 17 million users can’t be wrong.
Although there are hundreds of free WordPress themes out there, if you really want to personalise your website and make it stand out, you really ought to be looking to use one of the many premium themes out there. Premium themes certainly have a price but there is no doubt in my mind, if you are serious about blogging, a Premium theme is the way to go.
Although I have been blogging a relatively short time, in that time, I have tried many of the premium themes and frameworks out there and they all have their good points and their not so good points; it is difficult for developers to build frameworks and develop themes that are going to please everyone – although there are many developers try their best to achieve that goal.
I own a few blogs and websites and they are all built using WordPress. On all of my blogs I am using the Genesis Framework from Studiopress, along with one of the many child themes they have available. Genesis is actually a framework which gives the basic styling and functionality to your WordPress website; the Child-theme is the ‘skin’ of the website that everyone sees when they view your blog. You could say that Genesis is the plaster on the walls of a room and the Child-theme is the wall-paper that finishes the room off and makes it look stylish.
One of the things I like about Genesis is that you don’t need to have any coding experience at all. The Genesis framework is accompanied by an extensive range of ‘out of the box’ themes which means that anyone can have a great looking blog or website up and working in a relatively short period of time – by installing the Genesis Framework and then choosing a child-theme.
Here is a list of the Child-themes that I’m currently using on my blogs and websites.
Agency Child Theme
The Agency child theme for the Genesis Framework is a corporate-style theme that will provide a professional look for your website.
When you’ve got lots of content and you need a professional way to show it off, Agency is the theme for you. Use it to showcase your company, services and what you can offer
Enterprise Child Theme
The Enterprise child theme for the Genesis Framework is another corporate-style theme that will provide a professional look for your business website.
When you’ve got lots of content and you need a professional way to show it off, Enterprise could be the theme for you. Use it to showcase your company, services and what you can offer.
Focus Child Theme
We’re living in the Age of Distraction, with unlimited options pulling your readers in countless directions. It’s time to focus…
The Focus Theme was built to bring your words, pictures and videos into sharp relief. It’s a clean and powerful theme with one critical objective: concentrating your priceless reader’s attention.
Prose Child Theme
Prose is an elegant theme with point-and-click design controls. With Prose, you can easily change things about the appearance of your site (like colours and fonts) without knowing anything about code.
Maybe your readers prefer a larger font. You probably have certain colours you’ve chosen to reflect your individual brand. If you can point-and-click, you can customise Prose.
News Child Theme
Got lots of news-style content and need a stylish frame? The News theme is a great choice for sites that have a lot to say.
Enjoy using the featured areas and custom widgets that support everything from video to in-depth articles to great photography.
As you can see these are a few of the Child Themes that are available at Studiopress. They are all great designs, easily customised and great value for money.
